About Us
In an era of profound global change, humanity needs, more than ever, to draw inspiration from the accumulated wisdom of diverse civilizations. Education is not only a means of transmitting knowledge, but also a vital force for fostering well-being, strengthening social resilience, and advancing educational practices rooted in love. The humanistic values, the wisdom of moral causality, and the ideals of harmony embodied in traditional wisdom offer meaningful insights for addressing today’s shared challenges and promoting human flourishing.
Founded on 26 September 2020, the Traditional Culture Foundation(TCF) is dedicated to fostering international cooperation in education, the social and human sciences, and culture. TCF promotes the creative application of traditional wisdom in contemporary society, advocates for a humanistic education centered on love, encourages intercultural dialogue, and contributes to peace and sustainable development.
TCF advocates an educational philosophy known as “Ignite the Vital Spark of the Heart.” It believes that education is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but a process of inspiring the heart, awakening kindness, and nurturing each individual’s innate potential for goodness, personal growth, care for others, and service to society. Committed to human flourishing, TCF places particular emphasis on guiding young people during their formative years. It strives to cultivate confidence, creativity, resilience, responsibility, well-being, and a spirit of solidarity, empowering them to become active contributors to society, intercultural understanding, and peace.
Guided by the principle of drawing wisdom from the past to illuminate the present while embracing innovation, TCF promotes the integration of traditional wisdom with contemporary education and explores its relevance to today’s global challenges. Classical works from diverse civilizations—including The Governing Principles of Ancient China (Qunshu Zhiyao)—embody enduring principles of self-cultivation, benevolence, responsibility, and harmony, and provide valuable inspiration for TCF’s educational initiatives, cultural exchanges, and international cooperation.
As a platform connecting education, culture, and international cooperation, TCF works closely with UNESCO-related entities, Permanent Delegations to UNESCO, international organizations, academic institutions, and civil society organizations, including the Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of Thailand to UNESCO, one of its long-standing partners. Each year, TCF convenes the International Peace Forum at UNESCO Headquarters, bringing together representatives of international organizations, the education sector, and youth communities under themes such as “International Conference on Peace: Igniting the Vital Spark of the Heart through Traditional Culture Education for Youth.” Through these exchanges, TCF explores the role of traditional wisdom in fostering youth development, inspiring love and sincerity, strengthening social resilience, deepening intercultural dialogue, and contributing to peaceful societies.
Looking ahead, TCF will continue to advance its educational philosophy of “Ignite the Vital Spark of the Heart,” working hand in hand with global partners to enable traditional wisdom to respond to the challenges of our time, to inspire personal growth through education rooted in love, and to promote peace through dialogue among civilizations.
A Symbol of Living Traditions
The Foundation emblem brings together music, architecture, literature, calligraphy, culinary culture, performing arts, and ritual arts — a shared circle of civilizational wisdom formed through inheritance, exchange, and mutual learning.
Literature & Classics
Memory, meaning, and moral imagination across generations.
Literature and classics are vital carriers of civilizational memory, gathering a people’s deepest reflections on heaven and earth, human life, ethics, and social order. Classics do not belong only to the past; through interpretation and transmission across generations, they continue to inspire understanding of human dignity, moral cultivation, and the values of life together. Through literature and classics, traditional culture crosses eras to nourish the spirit, enlighten education, and foster intercultural dialogue.
Performing Arts
Culture renewed through presence, rhythm, and shared witness.
Performing arts present human emotion, community memory, and cultural identity through the body, voice, rhythm, narrative, and forms of the stage. They allow tradition to live not only in texts and objects, but in the immediacy of watching, listening, and participating. From dance and theatre to diverse folk performances, performing arts carry shared pursuits of beauty, order, feeling, and the spiritual world, and remain a vital way for traditional culture to renew itself in contemporary society.
Architecture & Spatial Culture
Cultural memory shaped in space and dwelling.
Architecture and spatial culture reflect how human beings understand dwelling, order, nature, ritual, and life in community. Architecture is not merely physical structure, but the spatial expression of cultural thought: it records the relationship between people and heaven and earth, the organization of society, and a civilization’s pursuit of beauty, proportion, and harmony. Through architecture and spatial culture, traditional wisdom continues in concrete environments of daily life, forming an important bridge between historical memory and contemporary living.
Music & Harmony
Resonance that crosses languages and borders.
Music and harmony are cultural expressions that transcend linguistic boundaries. Rhythm, melody, and shared resonance can awaken common human feeling and allow cultures to meet in listening. Traditional music preserves local memory and aesthetic forms while embodying pursuits of harmony, order, and inner balance. It reminds us that cultural exchange depends not only on language, but can unfold through the resonance of sound and spirit.
Culinary Culture
The wisdom of nourishment, hospitality, and shared life.
Culinary culture embodies deep wisdom in everyday life, connecting land, season, family, community, and custom. Food nourishes the body and carries the ethics of hospitality, restraint, gratitude, and bonds within community. The culinary traditions of different civilizations show how people and nature depend on one another, and how culture is practiced, transmitted, and shared in daily life. Through food, culture becomes tangible, approachable wisdom that can be lived and renewed.
Ritual Arts
Reverence, belonging, and shared meaning in practice.
Ritual arts are important forms through which traditional culture expresses respect, order, belonging, and shared meaning. Whether in ceremonies, festivals, symbolic gestures, or communal customs, they embody reverence for life, nature, ancestors, community, and the sense of the sacred. Ritual arts remind us that culture is not heritage to be viewed alone, but a living tradition continually practiced in action, relationship, and collective memory.
Traditional Opera
Story, ethics, and beauty on the living stage.
Traditional opera integrates literature, music, performance, costume, movement, and stage aesthetics into a highly synthesized art form. It conveys ethics through story, beauty through convention, and community memory and spiritual imagination through vocal and physical expression. Opera is not only stage art, but an important form of cultural education, allowing audiences to experience traditional values such as loyalty, benevolence, restraint, compassion, and wisdom through aesthetic experience. As a living art, opera renews itself through transmission and continues to reveal the vitality of traditional culture.
